Emporia State University Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking an Assistant Soccer Coach.  Assist the Head Coach will all aspect of the Soccer program as requested. This includes: coaching, recruiting, match/tournament scheduling, student development, budget management, compliance with NCAA DII, and conference rules/regulations and community building. The Assistant Soccer Coach is also responsible for participating as a member of the college community and with all collaborative departmental functions as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

COACHING AND TRAINING DUTIES: 

  • Demonstrate excellent teaching and coaching competencies with regard to:(a) sport skill instruction (b) motivation (c) tactical strategies (d) physical training and fitness in practices and competition.
  • Design and execute a competitive schedule for intercollegiate contests (including practice planning) that maximizes individual and collective student-athlete development and performance, prioritizing conference play within an academically rigorous educational experience. Create team results that are competitive within the MIAA and NCAA.  Along with the Strength & Conditioning staff, plan and implement the annual conditioning program. Work closely with Training Room personnel regarding prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.
  • Successful recruitment, matriculation, retention, and graduation of student-athletes capable of attaining the baccalaureate and or a master’s degree in sufficient quantity to maintain a team roster appropriate for competitive success.
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, Institute, and Department of Athletics rules, policies and expectations including commitment to lifelong learning, sportsmanship on and off the field of play, positive leadership and the desire and ability to act as a positive role model and representative of the Institute at all times.


FINANCIAL AND BUDGETING DUTIES:

  • Work within budget limits and guidelines as established by the department.  Assist with fundraising and developing relationships with supporters, parents, and alumni to help provide necessary funding for travel, equipment, and facility maintenance. Assist in sending thank you letters to each donor.


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: 

  • Oversee arrangements for team travel. Finalize all needs for day-of-game personnel prior to the beginning of the season.  Provide student-athletes with opportunities that allow for social, emotional, and academic development, in addition to athletic success through close interpersonal guidance, mentoring and counseling.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all constituents including department colleagues, administration, faculty, and other college personnel in the spirit of integration and community with a common mission. Includes collaboration with service/support functions such as SID, academics, equipment, and athletic business office.


PUBLIC RELATIONS DUTIES: 

  • Along with External Relations staff, develop and implement a program to promote and market women’s Soccer to increase visibility, ticket sales, contributions and interest in the program.  Organize and conduct youth camps and coaching clinics as part of the ongoing public relations and promotion of the program in addition to player recruitment. Administer a program for maintaining continuing communication with donors, former players and local Soccer community. Participate in whole department and sport specific marketing, public relations, civic and community outreach and fundraising/friend raising activities.


COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compliance with the rules and regulations of the athletic department, University, the NCAA, and the MIAA is of paramount importance. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.  As a condition of employment, the employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.


MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: 

  • Work with Academic Support to ensure retention, graduation, and commitment to life skills.  Work with assistant coach regarding inventory and the need to order or replace equipment and/or uniforms. Report the need for repairs to facility to the appropriate administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Knowledge of college Soccer and NCAA rules required. Minimum of five years of NCAA Division I and/or II collegiate coaching experience required. Proven ability to establish positive relationships with donors, alumni, former players, and local Soccer community essential. Proven ability to relate to high school and college-aged student-athletes essential.   



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree preferred. College coaching experience at a NCAA Division I or II institution with NCAA post season experience strongly preferred. Competitive playing experience and fund-raising experience desirable. 

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary:  $37,978 - $50,000 annually.
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for placement of base rank and salary.
