PAROC Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

Emporia State University is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center (PAROC) in Emporia, Kansas. The coordinator will work year-round to develop, offer, and coordinate STEM Outreach programming with a special focus on aquatic resources and the environment. The coordinator reports to the Director of STEM Outreach. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with ESU faculty, K-12 teachers in our region, and other external partners to develop and deliver STEM Outreach programming with a special focus on aquatic and natural resources.
• Coordinate outreach programs and outreach facilities associated with the PAROC.
• Supervise and train student employees in PAROC’s outreach education programs.
• Oversee the care and management of live animals and educational displays at PAROC.
• Grant Writing and fundraising.
• Marketing, communications, and public relations- work with the Director of Marketing to develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote PAROC outreach programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, or related field
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with children of a variety of ages (pre-K though high school)
• Ability to think critically, and use independent judgement in decision making
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision AND collaboratively with a team
• Experience with grant writing and fundraising
• Skill in social media management
• Ability to work some evenings or weekends, as events require

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, or related field
• Teaching experience
• Experience with STEM Outreach
• Spanish proficiency
