Emporia State University is seeking a full-time Assistant Custodial Manager and General Maintenance and Repair Technician (GMRT) to lead the Building Services team located in Emporia, KS. 


The General Maintenance and Repair Technician (GMRT), also serving as the Assistant Custodial Manager, is responsible for hands-on training, supervising staff, diagnosing and repairing equipment, managing inventory, and executing special projects within the Building Services team, ensuring smooth operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and train custodial staff, ensuring safe and efficient operations
  • Performing preventative maintenance on all equipment, and, diagnose equipment problems and make appropriate repairs.
  • Assist with managing personnel scheduling and the events calendar; delegate staff accordingly in Manager’s absence
  • Promote a team environment that fosters a culture of safety and quality
  • Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Review job applications and participate in interviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications Required: 

  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience
  • Six months of related maintenance experience.
  • Technical or vocational training can substitute for maintenance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Valid driver's license is required due to job duties involving the use of motorized vehicles.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced technical training and certification in custodial equipment maintenance
  • Previous custodial management experience in an educational institution.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and inventory management software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to repairs.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Expertise in a wide range of custodial equipment and tools.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and deadline management.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry advancements, safety protocols, and compliance standards.

 

  • Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to lift or maneuver 50+ pounds 
  • Standing or walking for 7 or more hours per shift 
  • Movements that require manual dexterity, trunk strength, wrist-finger movement, twisting, bending, pushing, and pulling

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary starts at $18.50 hourly.
  • Works year-round; schedule is 6:30am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday with an occasional evening or weekend for football games and other special events
