Visiting Instructor of Statistics

The School of Science and Mathematics at Emporia State University (ESU) invites applications for a visiting instructor position in statistics.


The two-year appointment will begin in August 2024, with the possibility of renewal.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses including general education courses.
  • Support the math general education director and supervise graduate teaching assistants.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities.
  • Engage in appropriate service activities within the university and the community. This should include organizing some outreach programs for K-12 students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications: 

  • A graduate degree (master’s level or higher) in statistics or related fields.
  • At least one year of college teaching experience in the U.S.
  • Ability to teach general education courses (for example: Elementary Statistics, College Algebra) and other undergraduate statistics courses (for example: Introduction to Probability and Statistics, Introduction to Biostatistics).
  • Ability to work with graduate teaching assistants.
  • A strong commitment to working on recruitment and outreach activities and serving on assigned committees.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in statistics.
  • Strong evidence of independence and excellence in teaching in university-level statistics courses and general education courses.
  • Experience in supervising graduate teaching assistants.
  • Ability to teach online courses.
  • Recruitment and outreach program experience.
