Emporia State University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Director of First-Year Foundation Program. The Director is responsible for coordinating and facilitating curriculum for the First-Year Foundation Course. 


The First Year Foundations Course is a unique transition course designed to facilitate integration into ESU’s learning community. The aim of this course is to enhance skills for academic success, develop understanding of college culture, connect students to resources on campus, and foster meaningful social and educational engagement. This position does not require service or research and is non-tenure track with the option for a renewable three-year contract.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director will create, implement, revise, and evaluate course curriculum, activities, and outcomes, and teach 4 sections of FYFC per semester (8 credit hours).  The First-Year Foundation course serves to assist in improving the retention and persistence rates of all students.
  • This position will train and coordinate other instructors for this course on the curriculum they build.
  • This position will be part of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies which reports to the Senior Diversity Officer and Assistant Dean for the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, education, curriculum development, instructional design, adult learning, or other related fields
  •  At least one year of teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience with creating and facilitating trainings


Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting. 
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives. 
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Complete and seek out regular professional development around student success.
  • Creating safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for first-year learners
  • Engage in teaching practices that support equity and inclusion
  • Assess student success needs in the classroom and individualized settings
  • Utilize data and data collecting mechanisms to make student success, programmatic, and classroom decisions
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity of outcomes for students, and serving students from culturally diverse backgrounds and marginalized communities.
  • Understanding/experience of evidence-based practices for inclusive first-year student success
