The Director of Administration provides leadership for the Office of Financial Aid, Scholarships & Veterans Services. Is responsible for ensuring that the office meets all aspects of the Federal Participation Agreement and Kansas Board of Regents requirements for the offering of federal and state financial aid. Coordinates with athletics to confirm that all NCAA regulation is followed regarding athletic aid eligibility.


The Director - Administration analyzes changes in student financial aid trends to assist the office and the university with short- and long-range planning. The Director - Administration plays a key role in the planning and delivery of outstanding service to students and maintains a strong relationship with other university office administrators. Is responsible for the management of all university, foundation, state, and federal funds allocated to the office.


The Director of Financial Aid – Administration reports directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success and works closely with various staff from Registration, Admissions, Athletics, and the university peer level positions. This position is a full-time, 12-month position. The Director of Financial Aid – Administration will also provide guidance on Borrower Defense Claims and FAFSA Simplification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration:

  • The Director of Financial Aid – Administration should:
  • Be well-versed in all administrative functions of the office
  • Advise the Vice President on policy as it relates to awarding and disbursement of financial aid administered by ESU
  • Approach administrative tasks creatively
  • Be the administrative contact for the office
  • Coordinate NCAA compliance
  • Supervise and evaluate the professional, support, and support staff members of the office
  • Meet regularly with the students and families regarding professional judgment
  • Ensure all policy manuals are current
  • Collaborate with senior staff to hire, train, and evaluate staff
  • Work closely with Enrollment Management and Student Success leadership, the University Registrar, Athletics, the Foundation, and Admissions
  • Attend Enrollment Management and Student Success staff meetings and participate in all committee assignments – committee assignments can be ad hoc or annually appointed by the President’s Office.

 

Fiscal Management:

  • The Director of Financial Aid - Administration should:
  • Monitor funds allocated to the office
  • Develop and maintain effective fiscal controls and proper record keeping
  • Take lead role with external auditors

 

Staff Development:

  • The Director of Financial Aid - Administration should:
  • Assist in the coordination and development of appropriate training programs for staff and students
  • Encourage the professional development of staff and their participation in professional financial aid organizations
  • Serve as a resource for staff to develop future leaders
  • Ensure that all staff development includes a component of diversity and inclusion
  • Assist in making referrals to campus and community agencies 
  • Be responsible for fostering continued staff growth related to current developments in financial aid

 

Program Development:

  • The Director of Financial Aid - Administration should:
  • Aid in the preparation of special programs and serve as a program resource
  • Assist in developing programing both on and off campus                           


Public Relations:

  • The Director of Financial Aid – Administration should:
  • Maintain appropriate communication with all university departments
  • Model professional and inclusive behavior
  • Train staff to present a positive image to students, faculty, visitors, and community members
  • Serve on appointed committees at the request of the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success and the President of the University
  • Maintain professional working relationships with area high school and junior high counselors
  • Offer financial aid workshops and participate in appropriate community events

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and at least 10 years of experience in a Financial Aid office environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups including students, faculty, administrators, and external service providers are necessary.
