Emporia State University’s Teachers College is seeking applications for a 9-month special education faculty position. The position will be a tenure-track assistant professor position in our CAEP accredited special education program. The position will be based on the main campus in Emporia, KS. There is an option to offer the position as a non-tenure track appointment with teaching and service responsibilities without scholarship responsibilities. The appointment will commence in August 2024. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful applicant will teach a variety of graduate courses in the special education high incidence program. Assigned courses may include collaboration and consultation, advanced behavior interventions, assessment in schools, autism evidence-based practices, and/or other courses specific to the area of expertise of the candidate. The successful applicant may also supervise pre-service student teachers or in-service practicum students. The position will require service to The Teachers College and the university, and scholarship responsibilities. 
  • The position will include teaching online courses dependent on the needs of the program. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in special education, curriculum and instruction, or related field
  • At least one graduate degree in a special education field
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience in an accredited K - 12 school with at least some experience teaching special education
  • Training in research-based approaches to teach courses related to special education curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Current teaching license in special education or previously held a valid special education teaching license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Special Education with an emphasis in high incidence
  • Experience teaching education majors at the graduate and undergraduate level
  • Experience supervising pre-service or in-service teachers in field experiences

 

Applicants in a doctoral program with an identified completion date are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant who does not possess a doctorate at the time of appointment will be hired as an instructor until successful completion of the degree.
