Emporia State University currently has a vacant position within our Intercollegiate Athletics department  for the Head Coach - Track and Field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

COACHING AND TRAINING DUTIES: 

  • The Head Coach for Track and Field recruits, prepares, and mentors student-athletes for competition as part of the intercollegiate track and field programs with the goals of individual success and high performance now and in their future lives.
  • Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes for track and field events. Contact high school/community college coaches, parents, and players themselves to establish and maintain relationships and rapport.
  • Maintain consistent communication/contact via face-to-face in person visits, performance evaluations; send texts, emails, and phone calls via voice or Skype. Host all-day, on-campus visits with prospects and parents; extend scholarship offers and negotiate signings.
  • Assist and inform prospects of housing and academic steps and begin ongoing mentoring process.


FINANCIAL AND BUDGETING DUTIES: 

  • Develop annual budget for review and approval.
  • Work within budget limits and guidelines as established by the department.
  • Expend resources according to established departmental and University policy and procedures.
  • Oversee the award of financial aid within departmental and NCAA limits.
  • Plan for facility needs for the year and submit appropriate requests as necessary.


PUBLIC RELATIONS DUTIES: 

  • Fundraise with supporters, parents, and alumni to help provide necessary funding for travel, equipment, and facility maintenance.
  • Identify, contact, and facilitate donations from aforementioned individuals.
  • Send thank you letters to each donor.


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: 

  • Plan, implement, and conduct daily track and field practices.
  • Evaluate player attitude and performance.
  • Arrange team lineups for competition and coach during practices and meets.
  • Teach strategic concepts to student-athletes

 
MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: 

  • Recruit, train, and supervise assistants.
  • Collaborate and delegate responsibilities and duties.
  • Maintain, install, and update facilities and equipment.


COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the MIAA is of paramount importance.
  • The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
  • As a condition of employment, the employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Perform related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Health, or a related field, as well as five years collegiate coaching experience.
  • Division I and or Division II level of collegiate coaching experience preferred


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree preferred. College coaching experience at a NCAA Division I or II institution with NCAA post season experience strongly preferred.
  • Competitive playing experience and fund-raising experience desirable. 



Part Time:

  •   12-month position with benefits. Reports to Director of Athletics.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Annual salary: $75,000 - $85,000.
