Emporia State University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Budget Analyst to join our Finance Team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the university’s financial planning, budget development, and management.


The Budget Analyst will assist in the preparation, coordination, and execution of the university’s budgeting processes, including the development of the annual budget and the preparation of key budget documents. Additionally, the role involves working closely with various departments to ensure effective budget management and compliance with university and state financial policies.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the coordination, preparation, and distribution of the Budget Request and Annual Operating Budget documents.
  • Support the development, execution, and evaluation of the university’s annual budget.
  • Provide support and guidance to departments on budget planning processes, offering expert assistance and ensuring adherence to overall budgetary goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the university community on budget planning and management, delivering training to new and existing staff on budget processes, data sources, and financial systems to ensure accurate financial analysis and effective budget oversight.
  • Work closely with campus departments throughout the fiscal year to ensure compliance with budget policies and procedures, facilitating communication and offering guidance as needed.
  • Conduct thorough financial analyses, review balances, and monitor financial and budget transactions to ensure accuracy and alignment with the university’s budgetary goals and policies.
  • Assist in maintaining and managing the university’s budget databases, supporting the accuracy of data and efficiency of budget management tools.
  • Assist in preparing routine and ad hoc financial reports and presentations for administration, providing information to leaders across campus, and performing various tasks to meet the needs of different constituents.
  • Ensure compliance with university and state budget policies and procedures by reviewing data for alignment with internal guidelines and external regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of new processes to create efficiencies within the department and the University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field
  • Minimum of (3) three years of experience in budget, finance or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary:  $63,591 - $81,079 annually
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for placement of base rank and salary.
