Emporia State University’s School of Business & Technology is seeking applications for an academic advisor in Emporia, KS. The Business Student Advisor in the School of Business & Technology promotes student success and advises students as they explore and identify business programs appropriate for their ability and educational and career goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise students about degree requirements, course selection, and academic policies.
  • Maintain student records and monitor academic progress and performance of advisees.
  • Help with outreach and retention initiatives. Participate in Black and Gold and other recruiting events.
  • Work with School of Business Department Chairs to assist with program or curriculum changes.
  • Assist with and participate in all orientation, advising, and enrollment periods.
  • Serve as resource to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Prepare reports, including statistical summaries of student data, etc.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a preference in business (from an AACSB-accredited university) or a closely related field with a preferred minimum of two years’ documented work experience with college-aged students
  • Excellent written grammar skills
  • Excellent electronic and face-to-face communication
  • Proficiency with the use of technology such as databases, MS Office (especially excel), and Outlook e-mail/calendar

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business (preferably from an AACSB-accredited university), higher education, counseling, or student personnel
  • Experience in higher education, advising, or counseling, and an understanding of higher education academic and administrative policies and procedures
  • Experience in advising distance students
  • Knowledge of OnBase, Banner, Degree Works, and Cognos or other University-supported enrollment and advising computer systems

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary:  $48,084 - $55,000 annually
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for placement of base rank and salary.
