Emporia State University seeks applications or nominations for the Dean of The Teachers College. The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the division, which includes programs in Elementary Education, Early Childhood, Special Education, School Leadership, Middle & Secondary Education, and Field Placement and Licensure.

 

The Teachers College has a long and storied history of providing exceptional high impact learning experiences for its future teachers and administrators, fulfilling the University’s mission of “preparing students for lifelong learning, rewarding careers, and adaptive leadership.”

 

The Dean will work closely with assistant deans, faculty, and staff to develop a comprehensive strategic vision for the college, deepen the school’s community engagement, advance initiatives to engage and recruit students to the University and to the school’s programs, and continue The Teachers College’s success in developing first-rate teachers, administrators, and education leaders for the region and state. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the principal academic and administrative officer of The Teachers College.
  • Strategically plans and ensures the overall effective operation of all programs within the Teachers College.
  • Maintains fiscal responsibility for all personnel and operating budgets with The Teachers College.
  • Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of academic excellence in all disciplines through all program delivery systems.
  • Effectively represents and advocates for the programs and faculty, staff, and students within The Teachers College to the University community and external constituents.
  • Supervises and annually evaluates personnel within The Teachers College.
  • Provides leadership in faculty recruitment, promotion, and tenure.
  • Provides support and leadership for accreditation reviews within academic programs.
  • Demonstrates and promotes collaborative efforts with other schools/colleges within the University and with external constituents, including external partnerships and community schools and organizations.
  • Pursues active membership on state and national professional committees which promote visibility for The Teachers College and Emporia State University.
  • Implements University, State, and Board of Regents policies.
  • Carries out tasks assigned by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President of the University.
  • Participates in fundraising initiatives that impact the School and University in collaboration with personnel from the ESU Foundation.
  • Ensures an effective student learning outcomes assessment plan is annually implemented, reviewed, and revised (as appropriate) for each academic program offered within The Teachers College.
  • Supports campus and The Teachers College outreach programs to attract a diverse student body and increase student enrollment and retention.
  • Maintains and continues development of a student-faculty learning community.
  • Monitors the physical facilities within The Teachers College to ensure they are appropriately maintained and state-of-the-art.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline within The Teachers College.
  • Record as an accomplished academic administrator.
  • Demonstrated record in teaching, service, and research at the level of Associate Professor or above.
  • Experience with the preparation of a self-study report for accreditation or reaccreditation.
  • Experience with shared governance in academics, budgeting, and personnel issues.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with faculty, students, alumni, and administrators.
  • Evidence of excellent human relations and communication skills.

 

Preferred:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience as dean, associate dean, department chair, or equivalent administrative roles.
  • Knowledge and experience with programmatic accreditation and compliance with regulations set forth by accrediting agencies.
  • Experience with building partnerships between academic programs and external entities.
  • Experience with fundraising and donor/alumni relations.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $93,701 - $154,606 annually.
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for salary.
