Desktop Support & Server Team Supervisor

The Systems Administrator Team Lead regularly makes decisions regarding the design and architecture of information technology systems in support of business operations which impact the availability and security of systems. The Team Lead will supervise other system administrators, and will advise on the design, technical and architectural components as well as the installation, configuration and operation of enterprise systems including VMware, Windows Server and Linux operating systems, storage area networks, backup and retention, high availability and other systems hosted by the University or by hosting partners.  

  

This position is a member of the infrastructure team, and as such participates in any team project utilizing critical thinking and problem solving to meet team goals and information security compliance including, IT design and architecture, change management of enterprise-wide systems, data retention and backup, user account management and lifecycle, system availability, and access to critical and confidential data and systems (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI). At times, this position may need to perform job duties outside of regular business hours including but not limited to maintenance, repair, or installation of equipment or software, and responding to unexpected outages. No regular travel is required.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Services and Applications

  • Manage the installation, configuration and management of server software applications including Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Exchange, IIS, Active Directory, Office 365, etc.) and other third-party applications.
  • This may include working with vendors and other departments on campus to identify needs and acquire IT solutions.
  • The position will work with the endpoint deployment team and platforms team to ensure the access, installation and availability of services.  


Systems Infrastructure

  • Design, install and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure including Cisco UCS, NetApp and IBM storage arrays and hypervisors (VMware/Hyper-V). The position is responsible for monitoring, patching, troubleshooting, ensuring performance and maintaining the physical and virtual infrastructure and related technologies.  
  • Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Design - Design, install, maintain and test on-premises backup systems and off-site replication as part of a multi-tiered disaster recovery and business continuance plan using the Veeam backup system and other technologies to provide quick recovery of data, systems, and required business operations.  


Documentation and Research

  • Create a detailed library of documentation that covers the design, implementation, maintenance and routine procedures required of all systems. Additionally, the position will research new systems or solutions that will integrate with identity, directories, messaging platforms or other IT solutions.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, with 8+ years of experience as a system administrator.  
  • Associate’s degree in relevant field, with 5-7+ years of experience as a system administrator.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, with 4-6+ years of experience as a system administrator.  
  • Relevant industry standard certifications such as: A+, Security+,Microsoft Azure Certs may substitute for 1 years work experience each up to 2 years.  


Preferred Experience:  

  • Experience installing, supporting, and administering Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022)  
  • Experience installing, managing, and supporting virtual environment technologies, such as VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Active Directory, and Remote Desktop Services (RDSH)  
  • Experience supporting the installation, administration, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise-wide email systems (e.g. – Microsoft Exchange Online)  
  • Experience with backup and restore software, procedures, and design (e.g. – Veeam)  
  • Experience maintaining user identities within a directory, such as Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, or LDAP, and provisioning as part of an identity management system (e.g. – Novell IDM, Oracle)  
  • Experience with storage array solutions (e.g. – NetApp)  
  • Experience designing and building mission critical IT solutions, including fault tolerance, disaster recovery and offsite replication, regulation of the environment (PCI, HIPAA), and multi-tier backup  
  • Experience implementing and supporting Office 365  
  • Experience with Cisco UCS installation, design, and configuration  
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting desktop operating systems and client software (e.g. – Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)  
  • Experience with certificate administration. 
  • Experience leading a team of IT professionals.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $26.59 - $32.50 hourly
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
