Faciliies at Emporia State University is seeking applicants for a Maintenance Repair Worker. The Maintenance Repair Worker position plays an integral role in the residence hall communities and other campus buildings. Ideal candidates should have the ability to efficiently maintain spaces and equipment, provide excellent service to residents and guests, work independently, take initiative, and advance the University mission. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Maintenance, the Maintenance Repair Worker position is a key part of the Facilities team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and respond to open work tickets within the residence halls and other areas on campus.
- Perform preventative maintenance and general maintenance within the residence halls and the equipment, including scheduled maintenance or repair on HVAC equipment and laundry equipment.
- Replace, repair, and maintain various types of lighting such as wall and ceiling fixtures, exit signs, and emergency lights. Tasks also involve installing switches, outlets, and running wiring and conduit for electrical systems.
- Unclog and repair drains in sinks, showers, toilets, and A/C units. Clean rust and lime buildup from drains, water pipes, copper lines, and toilets to ensure proper flow and function. Utilize sewer machines, wrenches, pipe cutters, and other plumbing tools safely and effectively. Apply knowledge of proper plumbing practices to perform maintenance and repairs in a safe and code-compliant manner.
- Prepare for and respond to hazardous weather conditions, including snow and ice removal to ensure safe access to facilities. Respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies as needed to support continuous facility operations and safety.
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to identify maintenance needs.
- Complete inspections and maintain records on emergency equipment and fixtures.
- Comply with all safety regulations and attend training sessions provided.
- Utilize effective problem solving to repair systems and equipment.
- Repair, build, and move furniture.
- Spray for pests in assigned areas, as well as setting traps for rodents as necessary.
- Perform other duties, as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or GED
- A successful background check
- At least 1 year of related experience, technical or vocational training may substitute for the required experience.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, and 75-100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Comfort working in a dormitory setting
- Standing or walking for 7 or more hours per shift
- Movements that require manual dexterity, trunk strength, wrist-finger movement, twisting, bending, pushing, and pulling
- Valid driver’s license
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $16.68 - $17.68 hourly
- Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
