Emporia State University is currently accepting applicants for a Physical Plant Supervisor vacancy with our HVAC team located in Emporia, KS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure high quality service and work is provided to the campus community
  • Supervise benefits-eligible staff and oversee the HVAC department.
  • Identify mechanical and electronic problems related to HVAC, refrigeration equipment, and hot/chilled water pumps. Troubleshoot and repair reported problems relating to HVAC systems. 
  • Confer with Maintenance and Engineering personnel to develop and institute new ideas for increasing productivity and efficiency. 
  • Manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Navigate Outlook, WORD, EXCEL, and other technology.
  • Mentor and provide training and development to team members.
  • Displays team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work after hours or weekends as necessary.
  • Identify and attend training opportunities for HVAC team to stay proficient on current HVAC equipment and technology

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • Journeyman’s HVAC license or ability to obtain license within six months of hire
  • EPA 608 Technician Certification or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
  • At least five years of supervisory experience in the HVAC field - Relevant education may substitute for some of the required experience.
  • Ability to work in extreme environments including: heights, hot/cold temperatures, confined spaces, and near high pressure steam 
  • Current driver’s license


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Technical College degree in building / mechanical trades or HVAC
  • Master HVAC license
  • Experience in DDC controls and / or BAS software
  • Ductwork fabrication
  • CMMS software experience


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis or lift or maneuver 75-100 pounds with assistance
  • Standing or walking for seven or more hours per shift
  • Movements that require manual dexterity, trunk strength, wrist-finger movement, twisting, bending, pushing, and pulling.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary:  $26.59 hourly
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for placement of base rank and salary.
