Emporia State University Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking an Assistant Baseball Coach. This position will assist the Head Coach in the development and management of the Baseball program. The Assistant Coach plays a critical role in coaching, recruiting, student development, budget management, compliance with NCAA DII, conference rules/regulations and community building. The Assistant Baseball Coach is also responsible for participating as a member of the college community and with all collaborative departmental functions as needed.

 

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits, vacation, retirement, and continuing education support. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 COACHING AND TRAINING DUTIES: 

  • Assistant Coach will provide the Head Coach with support in the administration of the program, training of the players, and development of competition strategy.
  • Makes recommendations regarding individual and team performance.
  • Works in conjunction with other coaching staff members to plan all aspects of the program.
  • The Assistant Coach is actively engaged in the recruitment process.
  • Coordinates travel and other arrangements for competition, and monitors athletes' academic progress.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively and to coordinate various aspects of the program while maintaining compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules. 
     

FINANCIAL AND BUDGETING DUTIES: 

  • Works within sports budget limits and guidelines as established by the department.
  • Assist with fundraising and developing relationships with supporters, parents, and alumni to help provide necessary funding for travel, equipment, and facility maintenance.
     

PUBLIC RELATIONS DUTIES: 

  • Support External Staff and Head Baseball Coach with, develop and implement a program to promote and market Baseball in order to increase visibility, ticket sales, contributions and interest in the program.
  • Organize and conduct youth camps and coaching clinics as part of the ongoing public relations and promotion of the program.
  • Administer a program for maintaining continuing communication with donors, former players and local basketball community.
     

MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: 

  • Work with Academic Support to ensure retention, graduation, and commitment to life skills.
  • Work with assistant coach regarding inventory and the need to order or replace equipment and/or uniforms.
  • Report the need for repairs to facility to the appropriate administrator. 
     

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the MIAA is of paramount importance.
  • The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
  • As a condition of employment, the employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
     
    Perform related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and at least 2+ years of collegiate coaching experience required.
  • Proven ability to establish positive relationships with donors, alumni, former players and local basketball community essential.
  • Proven ability to relate to high school and college-aged student-athletes essential.

   

Preferred Qualifications:

  •   Master’s degree preferred, 3-5 years College coaching experience at a NCAA Division I or II institution.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $43,403 - $65,105 annually.
  • Qualifications and previous experience will be considered for salary.
