The Department of Residential Life at Emporia State University is seeking applicants for the Student Success Coach (SSC) position. The Department of Residential Life strives to support the academic mission of the university by providing residents with assistance, connections, and opportunities to enhance their experience at ESU. As a member of the Residential Life Team, the Student Success Coach will promote and activate the mission, vision, and values of the department. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residential Life, the SSC plays an integral role in enhancing student success and the overall experience of residents in assigned residential communities. Ideal candidates will be student-focused and possess the ability to build meaningful relationships, provide coaching and mentorship, communicate effectively, and support student success initiatives with exceptional attention to detail. This is a 12-month, live-on position that includes evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to residential curriculum initiatives for assigned communities, including individualized and community support, educational experiences, and campus connections that enhance resident experiences and increase retention. Develop and facilitate workshops and seminars on topics such as study skills, wellness, and career planning. Encourage participation in campus activities, clubs, and organizations.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to help students establish academic goals, develop personalized action plans, identify strengths, and improve performance. Offer strategies related to study skills, time management, exam preparation, conflict resolution, and productive community behaviors.
- Serve as a member of an on-call duty rotation during evenings and weekends. Assess situations, provide initial crisis response and support, make referrals when needed, and assist with crisis management planning and follow-up. Ensure compliance with FERPA, Title IX, and Clery requirements.
- Assist students in navigating campus resources, including academic support services, tutoring, mental health resources, basic needs support, and financial processes. Provide information regarding academic policies, degree requirements, and registration procedures.
- Monitor student engagement and progress, maintain accurate records, provide timely intervention when appropriate, and collaborate with faculty and staff to support at-risk students.
- Support Residential Life and Division initiatives, including student staff training, recruitment and retention efforts, move-in, move-out, summer conferences, and other departmental programs and services. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of Residential Life.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in education, communications, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of postsecondary education and relevant professional experience. Candidates must also:
- Reside on campus in a university-provided apartment.
- Demonstrate the ability to create spaces and relationships that support diverse student populations.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call duty rotation and respond to campus within 10 minutes when on duty.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Successfully complete a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Education, or a related field.
- Experience with college housing, case management, crisis response, and student development theory.
COMPENSATION:
$43,403 annually.
