The Department of Residential Life at Emporia State University is seeking applicants for the Complex Coordinator position. The Department of Residential Life supports the academic mission of the university by providing residents with assistance, connections, and opportunities that enhance their experience at ESU. As a member of the Residential Life team, the Complex Coordinator promotes and advances the mission, vision, and values of the department while providing leadership for the operations, community development, and overall experience of residents within assigned residential communities.
Reporting to the Director of Residential Life, the Complex Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering student success, supporting community engagement, overseeing residence hall operations, and supervising student and professional staff. Ideal candidates will be student-focused leaders who excel at relationship building, community development, staff supervision, crisis response, and operational management. This is a
12-month position that includes evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the residential curriculum within assigned residential communities, including individualized support, community engagement, educational programming, and campus connections designed to enhance the student experience and support retention.
- Manage residence hall operations, including occupancy management, reception center operations, check-in and check-out processes, inventory management, and service delivery standards.
- Coordinate with facilities personnel on maintenance needs, building projects, and operational concerns while serving as a liaison between residents and university partners.
- Support summer camps, conferences, and other residential operations initiatives.
- Serve as a member of the 24/7 on-call duty rotation, providing crisis response, conflict mediation, resource referral, and follow-up support for students.
- Supervise professional staff, graduate assistants, Resident Assistants, and Reception Center Assistants through recruitment, selection, training, coaching, evaluation, and ongoing development.
- Facilitate staff meetings and provide accountability, professional development, and operational guidance to team members.
- Participate in and oversee student accountability and support processes, including incident review, behavioral interventions, wellness referrals, academic support referrals, and conduct-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with Title IX, Clery, and other applicable university policies and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate on departmental initiatives including recruitment, retention, move-in, move-out, summer conferences, and other Residential Life programs and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in education, communications, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of postsecondary education and relevant professional experience.
Candidates must also:
- Demonstrate the ability to create environments and relationships that support student success.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call duty rotation and respond to campus within 10 minutes when on duty.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Successfully complete a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Higher Education or a related field.
- Experience in Residential Life, residence hall operations, supervision, or community development.
- Experience with student development theory, staff training, and crisis management.
- Experience with StarRez and Maxient.
- Experience managing residence hall operations and residential communities.
COMPENSATION:
$48,000 annually.
